KLCQ: The Country Skillet in Lake City

KLCQ – The Country Skillet in Lake City

Many people are aware that my friend Zak has a C-210D that he lets me fly all over the state. People see me in it so often that when they occasionally see Zak flying it they say, “Hey, what are you doing in John’s plane?” Ha ha.

This day Stella, my student from Columbia, decided we should try Lake City for Lunch. We had heard good things about the Country Skillet.

The Flight

It was a scattered could day so we went VFR up to LCQ via Ocala at 8500 ft. The plane got up to altitude quite quickly and using the Garmin engine monitor I was able to lean it back to 11.9 gal per hour, and getting 159 kts True Air Speed. That’s not bad.

Took less than an hour take off to landing to get to Lake City, about 1.2 block time with taxi in and out.

We parked at the FBO and they were very friendly and accommodating. We bought some fuel although they said we didn’t need to. We like to respect their efforts though. It was considerably cheaper than Sheltair in KORL as well!

Nice and friendly people at the FBO

The restaurant is across the street, and the street is fairly busy for being out in the North Florida wilds, so we crossed carefully.

We went in to the Country Skillet, which has a very rustic, country feel but still very welcoming.

The front of the restaurant
The interior was described as “quaint”. I felt like I was in someone’s living room!

The food was great and the service was excellent! Prices were very reasonable.

Stella and I both had country style food, including soup. Delicious!

The Flight Home

Still VFR conditions so we flew back at 7500 feet. Leaned it out to 12.1 gal per hour and 158 kts TAS. I love this plane!

Total fuel used was just under 20 gallons. Great flight, great lunch, great company, great flight!
