KSGJ St. Augustine – Hangar One Bistro

N54TK – KA200

St. Augustine is just under the one hour flying distance I look for from KORL, if I’m flying a C-172. Well this visit was slightly different. Mike Schmidt and I actually drove up there to fly a Super King Air 200.

Michael and I were scheduled to fly some passengers to Glendale, AZ the next day, and we had been given permission to fly the plane a bit to get familiar. Since I also wanted to get night current, we took advantage of the restaurant on the field, the Hangar One Bistro.

It is recently redecorated, and tastefully done. Probably not a bad place to take a date!

The Flight

Well we flew afterwards, so not much to describe. Just three full stop taxi back landings to get our night currency. And since it was a King Air, we loved it.

The Restaurant

Our hostess was very shy. Too bad, she was very nice
The view from this porch was amazing, see below

Great views from the restaurant!

PIREP

No cost associated with the flight, but dinner was pricey. $22 is a lot for a hamburger.

  • Aircraft Rental: Not applicable here
  • Restaurant bill: Dinner was $32 w/$10 tip
  • ——-
  • Total: Priceless
  • ——-
  • Total flight time 1.5 after dinner

The restaurant has a decent menu but definitely resort pricing. St. Augustine is an established tourist area. The food was good, but not so much better than any place else to justify the prices.

The atmosphere is great though. Tremendous views of the ramp and the runways, so lots to look at.

The staff are attentive and friendly. We were not kept waiting for anything!

Really, I’d like to go back here some night and stay the night, so my wife and I could enjoy some of the drinks from the very well stocked bar.

So, as an overnight destination, I recommend it.

Flying Home

We flew to Glendale the next day, which is west of Phoenix. With headwinds and a fuel stop, it took 8.1 hours. Very tired!
