KSEF – Sebring: The Runway Cafe

(This is a two parter. I like the place so much I visited it once with my friend Mike on a Saratoga, and then on New Year’s Day with Kevin and Susan in our club 210.)

Entrance to the Runway Cafe, in the FBO at Sebring

The Venue

Sebring is a historical airport. It is built in and around the Sebring race track, home of the Sebring 24 IMSA Car race amongst many others. There is always something going on there, including Indy, IMSA and F1 testing, and some of the schools for driving (like Skip Barbour).

It’s a non-towered field, so extra vigilance is recommended entering and leaving the pattern. Since the self serve pump is one of the cheapest in the state, many pilots plan to land there to refuel.

The Runway Cafe

Very nice, clean and well decorated. Food was great and at reasonable prices. Mike and I were flying a P32R back from APF that day and we decided to stop for fuel, and lunch.

Mike Schmidt, one of the EPS pilots. Mike is now qualified in P32R as well as King Air.

There is an outdoor seating option, which will be handy in the non-summer months of Florida. Not sure it will get much use in July though.

Patio was busy that day. Not sure but I think some Indy racing legends are sitting at that table.

First trip: Our entire meal was under $40, even with a generous tip.
Second Trip: I don’t know. Susan paid!

The New Year’s Special was a delicious Sloppy Joe with a side. I got Hush Puppies! Yes I know, not on my diet but hey, it was New Years!

The weather was great on the New Year’s Day visit as you can see below.

Kevin, Susan and I flew the Mighty 210 down to KSEF on New Year’s Day. The weather was PERFECT for sitting outside!

Here is the Menu

The Flights

On the first visit it was a short flight from APF and made a nice rest stop on the way back to ORL. We also enjoyed the low cost AVGAS! The local CAP squadron was doing Cadet Orientation flights that day also, so we allowed them to skip us in line for fuel.

Very nice, clean place

On the second trip we came down the west side of the MCO complex, VFR at 6500 feet, with flight following. Orlando Approach was very helpful and even handed us off to Miami Center.

Kevin let Susan do all the flying. He didn’t have to.

They showed some old technology in the FBO
Murals of some race history are on all the walls of the FBO
Kevin and Susan are both students at a local flight school. This was by far the highest performance aircraft they had flown. As they told me, “WE LOVED IT!”
