Back when I was flight instructing for a living, I would often fly somewhere in a small plane with a student, colleague, friend, business associate or even a date to enjoy what we called the “Hundred Dollar Hamburger.”

This column is created and produced with assistance from the Florida Aviation Network

Times have changed. Rental prices have risen as well as fuel prices. A gallon of 100LL used to go for about $2, now it’s between $5 and $9.

Hence my new search, “The Three Hundred Dollar Hamburger”.

I recently started flying again after a seven year break. I was greatly disappointed to find out that my favorite airport restaurants had either closed or changed so much that they were no longer attractive. KTIX used to have the “Outer Marker Cafe” which was a nice, cheap place to sit, have a sandwich and watch a shuttle launch (yes it was that long ago.) KLAL had a great Italian restaurant which is no longer there.
